The 8 Days 7 Nights Lemosho Route is widely regarded as the most scenic and successful route for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro (5,895m). Starting from the western side of the mountain, the trail passes through lush rainforest, the spectacular Shira Plateau, alpine moorland, the famous Lava Tower, Barranco Valley, and Barafu Camp before reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa.
The extra day on this itinerary allows for better acclimatization, making the 8-day Lemosho Route one of the best choices for climbers seeking a higher summit success rate while enjoying Kilimanjaro’s most diverse landscapes. The route is known for its gradual ascent, breathtaking scenery, and excellent opportunities to adapt to the altitude.
Adventure Makers Tanzania provides experienced mountain guides, certified porters, quality camping equipment, nutritious meals, and dedicated support throughout your climb, ensuring a safe and unforgettable trekking experience.
After breakfast, depart Arusha for Londorossi Gate, where you’ll complete park registration before driving to the Lemosho trailhead. Your trek begins through the lush rainforest, home to ancient trees, black-and-white colobus monkeys, blue monkeys, and colorful birdlife.
The trail gradually climbs to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp), where you’ll enjoy your first night on the mountain.
Leave the rainforest behind as you enter the heath and moorland zone. The trail offers spectacular views of Mount Meru and Kilimanjaro’s western slopes.
Arrive at Shira Camp 1, located on the edge of the famous Shira Plateau.
Today’s trek crosses the magnificent Shira Plateau, one of the largest high-altitude plateaus in the world. Continue toward Moir Camp, allowing your body additional time to acclimatize.
The afternoon offers optional acclimatization hikes around Lent Hills.
Today’s trek follows the principle of “climb high, sleep low.” Ascend to Lava Tower (4,600m), where you’ll stop for lunch before descending into the beautiful Barranco Valley.
This day is one of the most important for acclimatization.
Begin the day by climbing the famous Barranco Wall. Although steep, it is not technical and rewards climbers with incredible panoramic views.
Continue across valleys and ridges before reaching Karanga Camp.
Continue through alpine desert toward Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt.
After an early dinner, rest before beginning the midnight climb to Uhuru Peak.
Around midnight, begin the final ascent under a sky full of stars.
Reach Stella Point before continuing to Uhuru Peak (5,895m), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement with unforgettable sunrise views before descending to Barafu Camp for a short break and then continuing to Mweka Camp.
After breakfast, descend through the rainforest to Mweka Gate.
Receive your official summit certificate before transferring back to Arusha or Moshi.
