Day 1: Arrival in Kigali – Transfer to Hotel

Upon arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be welcomed by your professional safari guide and transferred to your hotel.

Depending on your arrival time, you can enjoy a short city tour or relax at your accommodation. Kigali is known for its beautiful hills, clean streets and welcoming atmosphere.

Day 2: Kigali City Tour – Transfer to Akagera National Park

After breakfast, enjoy a guided Kigali city tour. Visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial to learn about Rwanda’s history and the country’s journey towards rebuilding and reconciliation.

You can also explore local markets, cultural attractions and craft centres to experience the everyday life of the city.

After lunch, travel east towards Akagera National Park. Upon arrival, check in at your lodge and enjoy some time relaxing in the beautiful natural surroundings.

Day 3: Full-Day Game Drive and Boat Safari in Akagera National Park

Wake up early for an exciting wildlife adventure in Akagera National Park. Enjoy a morning game drive across the park’s savannah landscapes, woodlands and lakes.

Akagera is home to the Big Five, including lions, elephants, leopards, buffaloes and rhinoceroses. You may also encounter giraffes, zebras, antelopes, hippos and numerous bird species.

Later, enjoy a boat cruise on Lake Ihema, where you can observe hippos, crocodiles and waterbirds along the shoreline.

Return to your lodge in the evening after a memorable day of wildlife exploration.

Day 4: Akagera National Park to Volcanoes National Park

After breakfast, depart Akagera and travel towards Volcanoes National Park in northern Rwanda.

Enjoy the scenic journey through Rwanda’s beautiful countryside, passing rolling hills, green plantations and traditional villages.

Upon arrival near Volcanoes National Park, check in at your lodge and relax. Your guide will brief you about the upcoming gorilla trekking experience and help you prepare for the following day.

Day 5: Mountain Gorilla Trekking in Volcanoes National Park

Today is one of the highlights of your Rwanda safari. After an early breakfast, head to the Volcanoes National Park headquarters for a briefing by the park rangers.

Begin your mountain gorilla trekking adventure through the beautiful rainforest-covered slopes of the Virunga Mountains.

The trek can take several hours depending on the location of the gorilla family. Once you find them, enjoy an unforgettable hour observing these magnificent animals in their natural habitat.

Watch the gorillas interact, feed and care for their young while learning about their behaviour and conservation.

After the trek, return to your lodge to relax and enjoy the evening.

Day 6: Golden Monkey Tracking – Transfer to Lake Kivu

After breakfast, head into Volcanoes National Park for an exciting golden monkey tracking experience.

Golden monkeys are rare and endangered primates found in the bamboo forests of the Virunga Mountains. Enjoy watching these playful monkeys move through the forest while learning about their habitat and conservation.

After the activity, continue towards Lake Kivu, one of Rwanda’s most beautiful lakes.

You may also enjoy optional activities such as kayaking, swimming in designated safe areas or visiting local fishing communities.

Spend the afternoon relaxing at your hotel and enjoying the peaceful lakeside atmosphere.

Day 8: Lake Kivu to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, depart Lake Kivu and travel towards Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Nyungwe is one of Africa’s oldest montane rainforests and is famous for its remarkable biodiversity and primate populations.

Upon arrival, check in at your forest lodge and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Prepare for the exciting chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk experiences planned for the following day.

Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk in Nyungwe Forest

Start your day early with an exciting chimpanzee trekking experience in Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Accompanied by experienced guides and park trackers, explore the rainforest in search of chimpanzees. Listen for their calls and watch them move through the trees as you discover the fascinating wildlife of this ancient forest.

Later, enjoy the famous Nyungwe Canopy Walkway, a suspended bridge offering spectacular views of the forest from above.

Experience the beauty of the rainforest, observe different bird species and enjoy the incredible scenery surrounding you.

Return to your lodge in the afternoon for relaxation and dinner.

After breakfast, begin your journey back to Kigali.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a short stop or lunch in Kigali before being transferred to Kigali International Airport for your onward journey.
