The 9 Days 8 Nights Lemosho Route is the ultimate Mount Kilimanjaro trekking itinerary for climbers who want the highest possible chance of reaching Uhuru Peak (5,895 meters) while enjoying one of the most scenic routes on the mountain. Beginning on the western slopes of Kilimanjaro, the Lemosho Route takes you through untouched rainforest, across the spectacular Shira Plateau, past the iconic Lava Tower, over the famous Barranco Wall, and through the Southern Circuit before reaching Africa’s highest summit. The extra day on the mountain provides outstanding acclimatization, making this itinerary one of the most successful routes for reaching the summit.

Designed for both first-time climbers and experienced trekkers, the 9-day itinerary allows you to hike at a comfortable pace while experiencing Kilimanjaro’s five unique ecological zones. Day 1: Arrival in Tanzania

Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by our representative and transferred to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi. Later in the day, meet your mountain guide for a comprehensive briefing, equipment inspection, and preparation for your climb.

Day 2: Londorossi Gate – Mti Mkubwa Camp

After breakfast, drive to Londorossi Gate for registration before continuing to the Lemosho trailhead. Your trek begins through dense rainforest filled with ancient trees, moss-covered branches, colorful birds, and black-and-white colobus monkeys.

Arrive at Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree Camp) for your first night on the mountain.

Day 3: Mti Mkubwa Camp – Shira 1 Camp

Leave the rainforest behind as you enter the heath and moorland zone.

Today’s trek offers magnificent views of Kibo Peak while crossing rolling hills covered with giant heather and volcanic rock formations.

Day 4: Shira 1 Camp – Shira 2 Camp

Today is an important acclimatization day as you cross the beautiful Shira Plateau, one of the oldest volcanic calderas in the world.

An optional afternoon hike toward Shira Cathedral provides additional acclimatization while offering spectacular panoramic views.

Day 5: Shira 2 Camp – Lava Tower – Barranco Camp

Today’s trek follows the important acclimatization strategy of “climb high, sleep low.”

Ascend to the impressive Lava Tower at approximately 4,630 meters before descending into the beautiful Barranco Valley.

This is one of the most valuable acclimatization days of the entire trek.

  • Walking Time: 6–7 Hours

Day 6: Barranco Camp – Barranco Wall – Karanga Camp

Start the morning by climbing the famous Barranco Wall, one of the highlights of the Lemosho Route.

Although it appears intimidating, the climb is non-technical and rewards trekkers with incredible views across the mountain.

Continue through beautiful valleys before reaching Karanga Camp.

Day 7: Karanga Camp – Barafu Camp

Continue your gradual ascent toward Barafu Camp, your base camp for the summit attempt.

Arrive in the early afternoon, enjoy lunch, organize your summit gear, eat an early dinner, and rest before the midnight ascent.

  • Walking Time: 3–4 Hours

Day 8: Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Mweka Camp

Around midnight, begin the final ascent toward Uhuru Peak (5,895m).

The climb passes Stella Point before reaching the highest point in Africa just after sunrise.

Celebrate your achievement with unforgettable views over glaciers and the African plains before descending via Barafu Camp to Mweka Camp.

Day 9: Mweka Camp – Mweka Gate – Return to Arusha

Enjoy your final breakfast on the mountain before descending through lush rainforest to Mweka Gate.

Receive your official Kilimanjaro Summit Certificate before transferring back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, where you can celebrate your incredible achievement.
