Lake Natron sits in the far north of Tanzania’s Rift Valley, in the shadow of Ol Doinyo Lengai, the region’s only active volcano. This isn’t a game-drive destination — it’s the largest breeding ground on earth for lesser flamingos, and a base for hiking to waterfalls, climbing the volcano, or walking with local Maasai. One is a full-service lodge with a range of room types and a pool; the other a simple, shaded tented camp right by the lake’s edge. Both are set up around hikes, flamingo walks, and time with the local Maasai community.

A full-service lodge sitting between the northern circuit’s major parks, with a restaurant and bar looking out over the lake and the Ngorongoro Highlands. Rooms range from comfortable en-suite safari accommodation with king beds up to glamping-style tents with private verandas, so there’s more flexibility here than at most Natron properties.

A simple, shaded Moivaro-run tented camp set back among trees right at the water’s edge — a welcome patch of cover in an area that runs hot year-round. Basic but clean tents each have a shower, comfortable bed, and private veranda, with a stocked bar and candlelit restaurant to unwind in after a day of hiking or walking the lake shore.
